EDMOND, Okla. -- Washburn women's tennis had a dominant day one of the ITA Central Regional Championship as they send six players into the Round of 16 in singles and all three doubles teams advance to day two as well. Round of 16 play will begin at 8:00 a.m. with singles play and doubles to follow.
Beginning the day in singles, the Ichabods had a clean sweep in the Round of 64. Jasel Bailey won in two sets over Clare Plachy of Nebraska Kearney. Saajida Razick took down Jolina Mass of Southern Arkansas 6-2 and 6-1. Riko Konno did not drop a game against Ella Hancock from Sioux Falls and Charlotte Bair won 6-4 and 6-1 over Mariana Jimenez of Newman in the first group.
Renske Ubachs claimed a two-set win over Brooke Coffman of Harding while Peyton Koper and Daniela Tijaro each won three-set battles to move Washburn to 7-0 in the opening round.
In the Round of 32, Jasel Bailey fell to the regions top seed, Pete Komada of Central Oklahoma in two sets. Saajida Razick bounced back from a first set loss to win in three. Riko Konno took down Ayaka Koga of Central Oklahoma 6-2 and 6-1. Charlotte Bair also came back from losing in the first set, winning 6-4 and 10-5 to advance.
Renske Ubachs cruised to a pair of 6-1 wins over Claudia Pastor of Missouri Western. Peyton Koper won a tiebreaker in her first set before winning 6-4 in the second. Daniela Tijaro battled through a pair of 7-5 sets to knock off Karina Yurchenko of Central Oklahoma.
In doubles play Renske Ubachs and Daniela Tijaro had no trouble taking down Yone Pereiro and Molly Gaddis from Fort Hays State, winning 8-0. Saajida Razick and Riko Konno closed out their match with a late run to win 8-3. Jasel Bailey and Peyton Koper did the same, defeating Jennifer Pfaefflin and Karli Gay of Ouachita Baptist 8-3 to advance into day two.
