EDMOND, Okla. -- After two days at the ITA Central Region Championships the Ichabods will send one singles player and one doubles team into the semifinals on Sunday. Renske Ubachs will take the court at 9 a.m. while Jasel Bailey and Peyton Koper will play for a championship appearance at 3 p.m.
Beginning the day with six Ichabods in the top-16 for singles. First, Charlotte Bair fell in two sets to Anika Ouwejan of Central Oklahoma. Renske Ubachs secured her spot in the quarterfinals, winning in two sets 7-5 and 6-1. Peyton Koper was knocked out by Augustana's Maria Fiacan in two sets.
Daniela Tijaro defeated the No. 2 seed in sinlges, Cristina Granero Boj from Missouri Western in two sets, 6-3, 6-3. Riko Konno split her first two sets each way, 6-1, but stayed with it to win 7-5 in the third. Saajida Razick also split her first two sets before falling 6-3 in the third.
Renske Ubachs continued to cruise through the quarterfinals round, defeating Ouwejan 6-1 in two sets to head to the semifinals. Both Tijaro and Konno dropped two-set battles to wrap up singles action for the day. Ubachs will face off with Maria Fiacan of Augustana at 9 a.m.
In doubles play, Ubachs and Daniela Tijaro breezed through a first round win over Newman, 8-4. Saajida Razick and Riko Konno came through late to win 8-6 over a Central Oklahoma duo. Peyton Koper and Jasel Bailey won 8-4 over Emporia State to put three Washburn teams in the quarterfinal round.
In the quarterfinals Ubachs and Tijaro, last year's regional champions, were defeated by a Harding duo, 8-5. Razick and Konno fell behind early and could not recover, losing 8-6 to an Augustana pair. Peyton Koper and Jasel Bailey had no trouble taking down the No. 2 ranked duo in the bracket coming from Henderson State, booking their spot in the semifinals with an 8-3 win. They will take on Pete Komada and Ayaka Koga from Central Oklahoma at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
