EDMOND, Okla. -- For a second straight year Renske Ubachs is an ITA Regionals Championship winner, this time capturing the singles Central Region title in the final day of action in Edmond, Okla.  

The victory for Renske Ubachs is the third singles regional championship in women's program history for the Ichabods, the first since Sonia Smagina won in 2022. With the win she secures an automatic bid into the ITA Cup taking place in Rome, Ga. between Oct. 3-5. 

Ubachs began the day falling behind by a set, losing 6-1 to Maria Fiacan of Augustana in the semifinals. She bounced back for a quick 6-2 win in the second set. She carried the momentum into a 6-3 third set win to move into the championship match.  

In the finals Ubachs jumped in front right away, winning 6-1 in the first set over Central Oklahoma's Pete Komada. The second set went the same way again, winning 6-1 to finish the dual in just over an hour and capture the regional title.  

On the doubles side, Peyton Koper and Jasel Bailey faced off with Komada and Ayaka Koga from the Bronchos in the semifinal round later in the day. UCO took an early advantage with Koper and Bailey hanging close. Late in the set Central Oklahoma pulled away for an 8-4 win.  

Next time on the court for Washburn will be in Omaha, Neb. at the Omaha Invitational on Oct. 3.
