TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn men's tennis delivered a strong day one of action back at home for the Washburn Invite. They will wrap up the fall home schedule with day two on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
In doubles play Benjamin Fock and Nicolas Hurtado-Novoa worked a 6-4 quarterfinal round victory in the Blue Flight. On the other side of the bracket Keita Kuroda and Gael Mourmant won 6-3 to punch their ticket to the semifinal round as well.
In singles play Benjamin Fock began his run in the Blue Flight with a three-set victory in the quarterfinal round, Keita Kuroda matched him with a three-set win as well. Fock cruised through the semifinal round winning in two sets while Kuroda did as well in the other semifinal battle.
Playing in the Red Flight, Nicolas Hurtado-Novoa began with a three-set quarterfinal round win while Gael Mourmant worked quicker, winning in two sets to advance into the semifinals. In the second round Mourmant lost a long three-set match while Hurtado-Novoa won in two sets, advancing into the finals of the flight.
Playing in the Green Flight, Graham Faris lost his quarterfinal round dual after falling in a second-set tiebreaker.
