WICHITA FALLS, Tex. -- Washburn men's tennis delivered a strong day one performance at the Midwestern State Invitational on Friday. The Ichabods will wrap up the Texas tournament on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. 

The day began with singles competition starting in the blue flight with Kilian Martinez advancing through the quarterfinal and semifinal round with two-set victories in each. Yuto Miyagawa fell in his quarterfinal round dual in two sets.  

In the red flight Nicolas Hurtado-Novoa battled through a three-set quarterfinal round dual to win and repeated his efforts in the semifinals, advancing into the finals. Keita Kuroda cruised through his quarterfinal dual in two sets and did the same in the semifinal round to advance into the finals as well. 

Benjamin Fock picked up a two-set victory in his quarterfinal green flight match while Petr Leipner fell in a first-set tiebreaker and lost in two sets. In the purple flight Graham Faris battled through a third set tiebreaker to win 10-4 and advance into the semifinals before falling in two sets in the second round. Gael Mourmant dropped a pair of sets in his quarterfinal dual on the other side of the bracket.
