INDIANAPOLIS, In. -- No. 6 Washburn fell for the first time this season, losing 4-1 to No. 1 Barry in the ITA Indoor National Championship Semifinals on Saturday morning in Indianapolis. The Ichabods will play for third place at the tournament on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Flagler.
The top-seeded Bucs (4-0) took a lead quickly, winning at No. 2 doubles 6-1 over Pavlos Parson and Benjamin Fock. They went up 1-0 in the match over the Ichabods (3-1) with a 6-2 win on court one over Tommy Cecchetti and Kilian Martinez. Yuto Miyagawa and Yoshinobu Nakatsuji trailed 4-3 at No. 3 when the point was decided.
Barry added another point at No. 2 singles with Tommy Cecchetti falling 6-2 and 6-0 to No.1 ranked Yan Kodjoed. No. 8 Pavlos Parson lost hist opening set 6-2 on the top court and dropped the second 6-1 to bring up match point for the Bucs.
Washburn got on the board with Kilian Martinez fighting off an early deficit to win his opening set 6-3 over No. 11 ranked Adam Lynch. He secured a point with a 6-4 win in the second set at No. 3. Shortly after on court four No. 36 Benjamin Fock fell 6-3 in a pair of sets as Barry secured the victory.
