EDMOND, Okla. -- No. 5 Washburn won a second match in a row defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State 5-2 on Friday morning in Oklahoma. The Ichabods wrap up the weekend away by taking on Harding on Saturday at 10 a.m.
It was the Savage Storm (2-6) who led off the match, winning 6-2 at No. 2 doubles over Daniela Tijaro and Mariana Silva Balsa. Jasel Bailey and Saajida Razick evened up doubles play winning 6-3 at No. 1. Maddie Shelley and Riko Konno worked a 6-4 victory on court three to clinch doubles for Washburn (6-2).
No. 62 Jasel Bailey led off singles play with another point for the Ichabods winning a pair of 6-2 sets at No. 5. No. 31 Riko Konno followed just behind, coming back from an early deficit on the top court to win 6-4 in her first set. She carried the momentum into a 6-0 sweep in the second set. Mariana Salva Balsa secured the match winning 6-3 to open her dual at No. 4 and secured the fourth point winning 6-2 in the second.
Southeastern Oklahoma State got on the board as Daniela Tijaro fell in two sets, 6-2 and 6-3 at No. 2. Saajida Razick cruised to a 6-2 opening-set victory on court three and pulled out a 7-5 win in the second set to add another point. Maddie Shelley dominated an opening-set tiebreaker to win 7-6(1) before falling 3-6 in the second. She came up just short in the 10-point third set tiebreaker, falling 10-8 to wrap up the match.
