ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- No. 10 Washburn rolled to a fourth straight victory Thursday morning defeating Ouachita Baptist 6-1 on the road. The Ichabods will take on Southern Arkansas on Friday at 12 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
Washburn (8-2) went in front quickly to begin doubles play with Riko Konno and Renske Ubachs sweeping their match at No. 1. Peyton Koper and Maddie Shelley followed just behind with a 6-0 result of their own on court three, clinching the firstp point of the match. Mariana Silva Balsa and Daniela Tijaro fell 6-4 at No. 2 as the Tigers (2-10) avoided the doubles sweep.
Singles play began with another quick win for No. 47 Riko Konno as she won a pair of 6-2 sets at No. 2. No. 68 Jasel Bailey was just behind her, winning 6-1 in her first set and 6-2 in the second on court four. Maddie Shelley took her opening set 6-2 and swept the second at No. 6 to clinch the match.
No. 14 Renske Ubachs added another point to the Ichabod total winning 6-2 and 6-3 sets at No. 1. Ouachita Baptist got on the board in singles play as Charlotte Bair fell in three sets at No. 5, splitting the first two 6-1 each way before falling 10-6 in the ten-point third set. Daniela Tijaro finished out the match, grinding out 6-3 and 6-4 victories on court three.
