LAKELAND, Fla. -- No. 6 Washburn bounced back from its first loss with a 5-2 win over No. 24 Charleston on Wednesday afternoon in Florida. The Ichabods are back in action taking on No. 15 Nova Southeastern on Thursday at 12 p.m. CST.
Doubles play began with the Golden Eagles (3-6) gaining an edge as No. 9 Renske Ubachs and Daniela Tijaro fell to No. 10 Sara Martinez and Sofiia Krasikova 6-1 on court one. Saajid Razick and Jasel Bailey evened doubles play up for Washburn (4-1) with a 6-3 win at No. 2. Peyton Koper and Maddie Shelley were close early on but could not keep up late, falling 6-3 at No. 3 as Charleston went up 1-0.
Daniela Tijaro bounced back in singles play winning a pair of quick sets 6-3 and 6-2 from No. 3 to even up the match. No. 25 Riko Konno won her first set 6-3 and lost 6-4 in the second. She rebounded for a dominant 6-1 win in the third to win on court two. No. 7 Renske Ubachs also split her first two sets on court one, first winning 6-4 then falling 4-6, before sweeping her third set 6-0 to bring up match point.
Playing on court four No. 65 Jasel Bailey went into a tiebreaker in her first set before falling just short, losing 7-6(7). She bounced back to win 6-1 in the second but could not carry the momentum into the third taking a 4-6 decision as the Golden Eagles pulled within one. No. 64 Saajida Razick battled in her first set, winning a 7-6(4) first set at No. 5 before creating separation early and winning 6-4 in the second to clinch the match.
Charlotte Bair was close behind finishing at No. 6. She cruised to a 6-1 victory in her first set and rallied late to win 7-5 and add another point to the Ichabod total.
