Ichabod bats stymied in a pair of losses at Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabod softball team was swept in a doubleheader at Central Missouri on Thursday falling 9-1 and 5-0. The Ichabods will be back in action on Saturday at Newman in Wichita.

Game 1 - UCM 9, WU 1 (5 innings)
The Ichabods were limited to four hits in a 9-1 loss to Central Missouri on Thursday afternoon in Warrensburg. The Ichabods' lone run came in the fourth inning when Erin Boles launched a solo home run to left-center field, accounting for Washburn's only run of the contest.

Boles finished 2-for-2 at the plate, while Makenzie Sais and Kate Ediger each added a hit as Washburn put multiple runners on in the third inning but was unable to capitalize. In the circle, Sadie Walker made the start and struck out one in three innings before Jalin Lavers worked the final frame in relief.

Game 2 - UCM 5, WU 0
Washburn was held scoreless in a 5-0 loss in the nightcap. The Ichabods totaled four hits but were unable to string together offense against a pair of Jennies pitchers.

Makenzie Sais, Aspen Burgardt, Taybor Moss, and Maddie McGee each recorded a hit for Washburn, with Moss going 1-for-3 from behind the plate. Despite multiple baserunners in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, Washburn could not push a run across.

In the circle, Jenna Sprague went the distance, tossing six innings while allowing five runs (four earned) and striking out two. Central Missouri scored via four home runs and a late sacrifice bunt to account for the final margin.
Washburn moved to 28-17 overall and 5-11 in MIAA play.
