KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- No. 8 Washburn volleyball garnered two MIAA Athlete of the Week honors after the opening week of the season with juniors Emma Siron and Shannon Frakes being recognized for their performances.  

Emma Siron was named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week in her first week as an Ichabod. She led Washburn in kills with 58 (4.14 per set) while playing in all four matches and hitting .307. She added 37 digs (2.64 per set) along with a team-high seven aces and three blocks. She had three double figure kill matches including a 20 kill effort in the season-opener against Oklahoma Christian. She notched a double-double with 13 kills and 15-digs against Westminster as well.  

Shannon Frakes earns her first career MIAA Athlete of the Week honor after dishing out 162 assists (11.57 per set) across four matches this weekend. The junior also led the Ichabods with 52 digs (3.71 per set) and did a bit of everything around the court with 15 kills, seven blocks and four aces. She dished out two 40+ assist matches with three double-doubles including a 47-assist and 19-dig effort in the season-opener against Oklahoma Christian.  

The No. 8 ranked Ichabods will be back in action for four matches at the Sioux Falls Classic beginning Thursday, Sept 3 against Black Hills State.
