TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Ichabod men's tennis squad began the 2026-27 season at the Kossover Tennis Center with a dominant day one on the singles side at the Washburn Invitational all day Friday. They will look to close out the tournament in day two on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. with singles action. 

In doubles play Benjamin Fock and Nicolas Hurtado-Novoa led off in the Blue Flight winning 6-1 in the quarterfinal round. Keita Kuroda and Yuto Miyagawa fell 6-2 on the other side of the blue bracket in the quarterfinals.  

In the Red Flight, Kilian Martinez and Gael Mourmant claimed a 6-2 opening round victory while Graham Faris and Petr Leipner fell 7-5 in a close battle in the opening round. 

On the singles side Kilian Martinez moved through the Blue Flight with a pair of two-set victories. Yuto Miyagawa advanced through the other side of the bracket of the Blue Flight with two victories as well.  

In the Red Flight, Benjamin Fock began with a three-set victory in the quarterfinal round before winning a two-set battle in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket Nicolas Hurtado-Novoa claimed a pair of two-set victories to send him to the other side of the championship round in the flight.  

Gael Mourmant opened with a two-set victory in the Green Flight and won by retirement in the semifinals after leading one set to none. Keita Kuroda opened on the other side of the bracket with a two-set victory and came-from-behind to win in three sets in the semifinal round.  

Petr Leipner battled through the Purple Draw winning in three sets in the quarterfinals before a two-set victory in the semifinals. Graham Faris lost a long three-set match in his first Orange Draw battle before winning his second match of the day.
