TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn women's tennis opened the new year with a strong day one showing at the Washburn Invitational all day Friday. The Ichabods will pick up action bright an early on Saturday with singles competition starting at 9 a.m.  

In doubles competition Jasel Bailey and Saajida Razick move into the semifinals of the Blue Flight winning a 6-4 match. On the other side of the blue bracket Daniela Tijaro and Ruriha Miyawaki fell in a 7-6(7) tiebreaker. Riko Konno and Mariana Silva Balsa wrapped up doubles in the Red Flight with a 6-3 win in the quarterfinal round.  

In the Blue Flight of singles Riko Konno opened with a two-set quarterfinal win before falling in a third-set tiebreaker in the semifinals. Daniela Tijaro cruised through a pair of two-set victories to put her in the championship for the flight.  

Saajida Razick opened the Red Flight with a two-set win and followed with a three-set victory in the semifinals. Jasel Bailey matched her two victories on the other side of the bracket, winning first in three sets then in two sets in the semifinals. 

Playing in the Green Flight Ruriha Miyawaki won a tiebreaker to win in two sets in the quarterfinal round before battling for a three-set victory in the semifinals.
