OMAHA, Neb. -- Washburn men's tennis wrapped up a brief day one of the Creighton Invite with strong success against DI competition on Saturday morning into the afternoon. The Ichabods will wrap up the tournament facing off against the Bluejays on Sunday at 2 p.m.  

In singles competition Nicolas Hurtado-Novoa claimed a three-set victory over his opponent from Creighton while Keita Kuroda and Petr Leipner each defeated their Bluejay opponent in two sets. Gael Mourmant split his first two sets before falling in a third-set tiebreaker.  

In doubles action, Kilian Martinez and Yuto Miyagawa won 6-4 over a duo from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Benjamin Fock and Nicolas Hurtado-Novoa dropped a 6-3 battle against another Maverick duo.
