Biography
As a Junior in 2007-08
• He played in and started all 29 games as a junior forward and averaged 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds. He was one of just two Ichabods to start or play in all 29 games.
• His rebound average was the second highest on the team and will be the leading returning total.
• Was second on the team with 20 blocked shots and he moved to fourth all-time at Washburn with 68 career blocks. He is 11 away from third and 32 away from tying Ewan Auguste for first in school history with 100.
• During the year he was 105-of-202 from the field and shot 52 percent, tying for second best on the team.
• He scored a season-high 17 points on 02/23/08 against Emporia State. He was 7-of-12 from the field (58 percent).
• He had his second career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds on 01/05/08 against Central Missouri. The rebound total was a career high, as was the 10 defensive rebounds.
• He scored in double figures 12 times, including a stretch of four straight times from 01/02/08 through 01/12/08. During those four games he averaged 14.3 points and shot 63 percent.
• He set a career high by shooting 100 percent from the field off of a 5-of-5 effort on 11/16/07 against Lincoln.
• He set a career-high with an 80 percent effort from 3-point range by going 4-of-5 on 01/09/08 at Emporia State.
As a Sophomore in 2006-07
• He played in all 27 games with 19 starts and averaged 7.2 points and 5.0 rebounds.
• He recorded his first double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds on 12/16/06 at Cameron.
• He reached double figures in scoring seven times with a season-high 17 on 01/03/07 against Emporia State.
• He led the team with an .833 free throw percentage (30-for-36) and shot .900 during MIAA games (18-for-20). He was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line on both 11/24/06 against Cameron and 01/03/07 against Emporia State.
• Byers tied a career high with five assists on 12/20/06 at Lynn.
• His scoring average and rebounding average were both third best on the team.
As a Freshman in 2005-06
• Played in all 26 games with 19 starts and averaged 5.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
• Had a career-high 21 points in the final game of the year 02/25/06 at Central Missouri as he shot 10-for-13 from the field. He missed a double-double as he had a career-high nine rebounds that game.
• He finished the year strong, reaching double figures in two of the last four games. He put in 14 at Southwest Baptist on 02/1/06 and nine at Northwest Missouri State on 02/22/06. During that stretch he averaged 11.8 points and 6.5 rebounds.
• His five blocks against Ottawa on 11/22/05 tied a school single-game record.
• He totalled 31 blocks to rank seventh in the Washburn single-season record book, right behind assistant coach and All-American Ewan Auguste. His 1.2 blocks per game also tied for the sixth highest single-season average. In just one year, he is already 13th in the WU career record book.
