At Washburn: Returns to the defensive line and enters the fall as one of the starting defensive ends … has recorded 62 tackles with eight for loss and two and a half sacks.

In 2007: Made nine starts playing in all 12 games at defensive end making 15 solo tackles with nine assisted tackles … recorded two and one-half tackles for loss and a half sack with one pass break up … had a season-high six tackles against Fort Hays State while adding a pass break up … a member of the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.

In 2006: Played in 10 games recording 11 solo tackles and 24 total with four tackles for loss, a sack and a pass break up … named to the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll … recorded a career-high seven tackles with five solo stops at Truman.

In 2005: Missed the entire season after suffering a knee injury in preseason camp receiving a medical redshirt.

In 2004: Played in all 12 games starting eight recording 14 tackles and four tackles for loss … recorded a sack … scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery against Northwest Missouri.

In 2003: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

Background: Was named first team Nebraska super state, all-state, all-Nebraska, all-metro and all-district as a senior at Millard North at defensive end after lettering his junior and senior seasons.

Personal: Born June 20, 1985 … son of Randall and Christine Birt … has already graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology … has now started graduate school.
