TOPEKA, Kan. – Five Concordia-St. Paul players reached double figures in kills as the second-ranked Golden Bears defeated No. 8 West Texas A&M 3-1 (30-17, 30-22, 29-31, 30-19) Friday night in the semifinal of the NCAA II Volleyball National Championship. Concordia will play in the final Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Washburn/Western Washington winner in WU’s Lee Arena.
Emily Palkert led CU with 21 kills and hit .459 with four errors in 37 attempts. Whitney Meierotto had 18 kills, Kate Bennet had 13, Sadie Kessler had 12 and Maria Steinhagen had 11.
Maggie McNamara had 65 assists for the Golden Bears while Mary Slinger led with 31 digs.
The No. 8 Lady Buffaloes were led by Melissa Harper with nine kills and Sara Contreras with 27 digs.
WTAMU never hit above .100 in a game and ended the match with a .071 attack percentage. Concordia hit strongly in the first two matches and then held off West Texas A&M in game three as there were 13 ties and five lead changes.
