Washburn Hall of Fame - Jerry Reichart

Jerry Reichart
1946-50
Football 1946-49
Inducted 1987-88

Playing on both sides of the ball, Jerry Reichart helped bring the Washburn football team back to prominence during his four years, culminating with a Central Intercollegiate Conference championship in 1949, his final year. The team went 23-10-2 as Reichart played from 1946-49 under Hall of Fame coach Dick Godlove.

As an offensive guard he helped open holes for Art Fletcher and Leroy Harmon, two of Washburn’s top rushers of all time. On defense he played tackle and helped the team to six shutouts in his four years.

After college he won championships in amateur track and field events and also stayed close to football as a high school official, donning a whistle during 16 Kansas state high school championship games. He also officiated track and field events, including the NAIA national championships and the KU Relays.

For his efforts at WU he was named all-CIC in 1949.
