Washburn Hall of Fame - Dorsey Elliott

Dorsey Elliott
Basketball 1935-38
Inducted 1990-91

Dorsey Elliott came to Washburn in 1934, played on the freshman basketball team his first year and then lettered for two years on the varsity team from 1935-38. He was inducted into the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990-91.

During his senior year Elliott played in the final four of the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball tournament in Kansas City, Mo. One of the most memorable plays in WU history took place in that tournament when the Ichabods were playing Marshall. WU trailed throughout the second half until tying the score with four minutes left. In the final seconds Marshall missed a shot to win and Elliott grabbed the rebound and passed it up court to Jim Mackey who shot it in at the buzzer from half court to win, 53-51.

Elliott lettered his sophomore and senior years and missed his junior year to knee injury. He was co-captain his final year with Hall of Fame member Lelus Brown.

Elliott taught and coached in Kansas after graduating and then became a farmer.
