Washburn Hall of Fame - Ed Hanson

Ed Hanson
Basketball 1949-52
Inducted 1980-81

Two-time all-conference first teamer Ed Hanson played basketball from 1949-52 and was inducted into the WU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1980-81.

As a sophomore he averaged nine points a game and as a junior he helped the Ichabods win their first Central Intercollegiate Conference championship. In a game late in the season against Emporia State his late heroics helped clinched the title.

“Hanson was the whole show in the third quarter, hitting five consecutive baskets and stealing the ball from flustered Emporians,” said the Washburn Review. He finished with 18 points that game and later earned all-CIC first team honors.

In his senior year he scored 321 points, helped the team to another conference title and earned first team all-conference honors again.

Hanson graduated in 1954 and served two years in the army before teaching and coaching in Kansas high schools.
