Inducted 2006-07
Michael Dritlein, Washburn’s first NCAA All-American, played football for the Ichabods from 1992-95. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006-07.
Not only was Dritlein a force on the field, he was an exceptional student. His sophomore and senior years he was named second team academic All-America and his senior year he was a weekly recipient of the $25,000 Burger King Scholar Athlete of the Week award, which endowed a scholarship in his name at Washburn. Dritlein was also named to the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll and to the academic all-MIAA team three times.
In 1995 he had 1,112 receiving yards to earn first team Football Gazette All-America and second team CoSIDA All-America honors.
Dritlein ended his career with the school records for receptions with 170 and reception yards with 3,103. Those records stood until the 2006 season.
His receiving total was second in the MIAA’s career record book when his playing days were over. Dritlein’s 3,823 career all-purpose yards ranked third at WU as of 2006 and he was 15th in career scoring.
Dritlein recorded 14 games with at least 100 receiving yards, the school record and he set a career high with 201 against Truman his senior year.
