David Trupp, C.S.C.S., is in his 23rd season on the coaching staff and has moved into the full-time strength and conditioning coordinator position. Prior to concentrating on the Ichabod football team’s weightlifting program, Trupp spent 10 seasons as the Ichbods’ defensive line coach. Trupp has also attained his Level 1, Olympic Certification training.
Trupp has been instrumental in designing the Capitol Federal Savings Strength and Conditioning Center inside Whiting Fieldhouse.Â
While at Washburn, he coached 13 defensive linemen and one tight end who have received all-MIAA honors, three all-region honorees and four all-American picks including Trey Lewis, the 2006 MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and 2007 sixth round draft choice by the Atlanta Falcons.
Trupp’s 2006 and 2005 defensive lines helped the Ichabods reach the top 10 in sacks for the two respective seasons and the 2005 and 2007 defensive lines pushed the Washburn defense to two of the top three tackles for loss totals in school history.
Trupp spent the 2001 season as the defensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Monett (Mo.) High School.Â
From 1996 to December 1998, Trupp was the defensive tackle coach and an off-season strength and conditioning supervisor while completing his master’s degree at Pitt State.
Trupp received his teaching certificate in 1992 from Washburn after completing his bachelor of science degree from Baker University. He was also a member of the Nebraska Cornhusker’s football team from 1986 to 1987 before transferring to Baker.
He coached at Washburn Rural High School, Topeka High School and Hayden High School. He played high school football at Washburn Rural High School.
Trupp has two children, Connor and Keira.
