Background: As a junior he set school records for passing yards (1874), completions (150), and touchdowns (16) … rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns … named 2nd team all-centennial league at quarterback and honorable mention all-state class 5A … also named first team all-city and all-Centennial League in baseball as catcher … as a senior year he threw for 1,780 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 601 yards and eight touchdowns … named Top-11 in the city and first team selection on the all-Centennial League team as well as honorable mention all state class 5A … in baseball he was named the player of the year for the city of Topeka and was also Centennial league player of the year with first team all state class 5A honors.
