Biography

At Washburn: A five-year member of the Ichabods … has appeared in 36 games making 24 starts … has recorded 194 total tackles including 120 solo stops and 7.5 tackles for loss … has made two interceptions and 16 pass breakups … a five-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. 

In 2024: Started all 11 games at safety … made 49 solo tackles and 40 assisted tackles … broke up eight passes and made one interception … recorded season-high 16 total tackles against Central Missouri … had two pass breakups and one interception against Emporia State … named All-MIAA Third Team at defensive back … a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and MIAA Scholar-Athlete. 

In 2023: Appeared two games before suffering a season-ending injury … had seven tackles against Pittsburg State with five solo stops in the season opener and was named the Ichabod defensive skill player and Big Hit award winner … a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

In 2022: Tied for second on the team with 58 tackles starting all 11 games making 39 solo stops adding four tackles for loss, an interception and a forced fumble … a two-time winner of the Ichabod defensive skill player of the week and big hit award winner … named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team and to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

In 2021: Played in 12 games recording 41 tackles with 28 solo stops ... had a season-high eight tackles against Harding in the NCAA Playoffs … named Ichabod special teams and big hit player of the week before the Northwest Missouri State game and named Ichabod defensive skill player of the week before the Northeastern State game … a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

In 2020: Season canceled because of COVID-19 … a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

Background: An all-league selection at quarterback and defensive back as well as honorable mention a senior after passing for 14 touchdowns and 1,125 yards while rushing for 1,023 yards and 18 touchdowns recording 82 tackles and four interceptions … passed for 1,511 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior rushing for 956 yards and 12 touchdowns … as a sophomore rushed for 1,291 yards and 13 touchdowns while passing for 1,236 yards and 10 touchdowns … had 57 tackles as a junior eight interceptions and had had 49 tackles as a sophomore … tallied 3,377 total rushing yards and 43 touchdowns and 3,980 passing yards with 25 touchdowns in prep career recording 201 tackles with 9.5 tackles for loss and 13 interceptions … scoring 290 points in high school overall in football … also wrestled winning state as a junior at 170 pounds going 38-2 overall and finished second as a sophomore at 160 pounds with a 37-3 record … also competed in track … a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: Son of Jennie and David Hovis … two sisters, Jasmine and Britynn and a brother Draxtin … majoring in marketing.
