Will Marchino enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Washburn women's basketball team and will also serve as the head coach of the Washburn Women's JV team. Marchino arrives in Topeka after two seasons as an assistant coach at Seward County Community College.
During his time in Liberal, Kansas, Marchino oversaw recruiting and scouting for SCCC. The Saints went 40-15 and made the Region 6 Final Four in 2022. During the 2021 shortened season, the Saints set a school and Jayhawk Conference record for most points in single game, defeating Neosho County 136-56. The Saints finished the 2021 season second in NJCAA in made three-pointers (247) and third in the NJCAA in points per game (84.3) in just 23 games played. Marchino also assisted in moving the Saints players on to four-year schools after their time in Liberal. Three student-athletes went on to NCAA DI institutions and four student-athletes moved on to the NCAA DII level.
Prior to his time in Liberal, Kansas, Marchino was an assistant coach for Grand View University. During his second year at Grand View, Marchino helped lead the Vikings to the 2018 NAIA Division I National Tournament in Billings, Montana. It was Grand View’s first DI National Tournament appearance in school history. During his time with the Vikings, Grand View made four appearances inside the Top-25 NAIA programs for academics.
Before making the jump to the college ranks, Marchino was the varsity girls basketball head coach at Iowa Christian Academy. He took one of the smallest school jobs in the state and increased participation and win total in each of his three seasons. Marchino helped send four players on to play in the college ranks during his time at ICA. In his final season with the Blazers, he led them to a regular season record of 15-8 and won a district tournament game for the first time in five years.
Marchino also owned and operated his own AAU program, the Iowa Dragons, for eight years with his wife, Amanda Marchino. They created and built the program from the ground up. The Iowa Dragons had over 100 athletes involved in their program ranging from 3rd through 11th grade girls. In 2016 the program was recognized as an Under Armour grassroots program. Marchino helped send multiple ladies onto the college ranks to play basketball in the eight years as a program director, while traveling the country playing in tournaments all year long.
Marchino is a 2008 graduate from the University of Iowa. He received his degree in Health and Sports Studies. Marchino and his wife Amanda, live in Topeka, Kansas.
