Nick Wood is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Washburn basketball program. The former Baker University standout will help with both the Ichabod and junior varsity programs.
Prior to his arrival at Washburn, Wood spent four seasons as the head boys and girls coach at the American International School of Muscat, Oman leading the girls team to a 35-8 record and the boys squad to a 40-18 overall mark for a combined winning percentage of .743. His teams won the girls 2017 and 2018 Muscat Secondary Schools League titles and the 2017 MSSL Boys league championship.
Wood spent the 2009-14 seasons as the head girls basketball coach at Lawrence High School coaching five all-league selections with three earning all-state honors coaching seven players to college basketball scholarships.
Wood also served as assistant high school boys coach at Eudora and Lawrence Free State.
After wrapping up his playing career at Baker, Wood spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Kansas State while completing his master's degree in student counseling and personnel services.
Wood graduated in 2001 from Baker with a degree in business playing for the Wildcats from 1998-2001. He scored nine points against the Ichabods hitting three 3-pointers in five attempts in a 14-point loss to Washburn. He finished at Baker amongst the school leaders in all-time 3-pointers made with 152 serving as captain his senior season.Â
Wood played one season at Independence Community College before transferring to Baker.
