Former Ichabod tennis player David Price is entering his sixth season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Washburn men's and women’s tennis programs.

Price returns to Washburn after compiling a coaching resume expanding 20 years, last coaching in 2006 as the Tennis Pro at the Red Sports Tennis Academy in Palm Beach, Gold Coast, Australia for two years. Prior to that, Price was the Tennis Coach and Program Director for the City of Pittsburg, Kan. In 1996, Price was the assistant coach to former Ichabod head coach Peg Marmet after a three-year stint as the Director of Tennis at the Wood Valley Racquet Club in Topeka, Kan. from 1993-96. Prior to coming to Kansas, Price made several stops as the Tennis Pro at the Four Seasons Racquet Club in Lake Ozark, Mo. (1991,1992), John Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas (1998), Jupiter’s Casino in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia (1987), and Tanglewood Resort, Cabarita, NSW, Australia (1987).

Price earned his BBA in Management and Marketing from Washburn University in 1993, receiving an MBA from Pittsburg State University in 1998. He earned a PhD in Marketing from Griffith University in 2010 and his tennis certifications include:

United States Professional Tennis Associations (Level 1) 1991-2014, United States Professional Tennis Registry (Instructor) 1991-1998, NTRP Certifier, UTSA Umpire, and United States Racquet Stringing Association 1996-1997

The Australia Native was a tennis standout for the Ichabods playing No. 1 singles and doubles from 1988-1992. He earned NAIA singles and doubles champion honors at the No. 1 position his freshman year as well as winning the Conference Championship at No. 1 singles as a senior in 1992. Price was named the Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the 1991 season and reached No. 2 in the Midwest regional rankings. After achieving a No. 19 U.S. National ranking in 1992 he picked up several major awards including the MIAA Player of the Year, Senior of the Year (Midwest Region), and the MIAA Sportsmanship Award.

Price is currently an Associate Professor of Marketing in the School of Business at Washburn University and resides in Topeka with his wife Darla and their two children Benjamin and Peyton.
