Reid started his collegiate tennis career at Tulsa (1977-78) before transferring to Washburn for the 1978-79 season. He wrapped up his career at Kansas State where he graduated with his bachelor’s of science degree in 1981. He returned to Washburn a decade later and earned his MBA in 1992.
