Former Ichabod All-American Maja Jung joins the Washburn tennis coaching staff as a graduate assistant for the 2024-25 season after wrapping up her playing career with the second most total victories of any player in women's program history.Â
Over her four-year career Jung posted an 88-26 mark in singles while going 23-4 playing at No. 1. She finished her doubles career with an 78-24 mark and a 26-8 record on the top court. During her senior season she went 28-7 in singles and 26-8 in doubles all from No. 1 and went on to win MIAA Player of the Year honors, ITA Central Region Player of the Year, as well as ITA All-American status in both singles and doubles. During the fall, Jung qualified for the ITA Cup in both singles and doubles, advancing to the ITA Cup semifinals on the singles side.Â
Jung concluded her career earning All-MIAA status in singles and doubles all four years, including first team for both each of her final two seasons. She helped the Ichabods to four straight NCAA Tournament Appearances, with three consecutive trips to the NCAA National Championships in her final three seasons and an MIAA Tournament Championship in the 2022-23 season. The Bielefeld, Germany native was a four-year member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll earning MIAA Scholar Athlete honors all four years and became the first player in program history to twice be named a CSC Academic All-American after earning first-team honors her senior year.Â
She is the daughter of Kerstin and Michael Jung and is working towards her MBA.Â
