Sofia Smagina

Sofia Smagina is in her first season as a graduate assistant coach on the tennis teams after wrapping up one of the best seasons in Ichabod tennis history.

During the 2022-23 season, she went 30-3 in singles all from No. 1 recording the second-most singles victories in a season in program history with a .909 winning percentage, the tenth-best in a season and fourth for a career. She became the second Ichabod to play for the ITA Cup National Championship in singles and she was 26-5 in doubles all at No. 1.

Her 26 wins is sixth most in a season and her .839 winning percentage is tied for fourth best in a career. She qualified for the ITA Cup in doubles in fall 2022 and became the first Ichabod since 2020 to achieve a No. 1 ITA national ranking. She was named MIAA Player of the Year and was a first team selection at No. 1 singles and doubles in her lone season as an Ichabod.

Prior to joining the Ichabods, she played at Kansas where she was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman team, All-Big 12 singles second team and All-Big 12 doubles first team in 2019. As a junior she went 16-16 overall in singles play primarily at No. 3. As a sophomore she completed a 7-4 overall singles record at the No. 1 position and a 3-6 overall record in doubles at the No. 1 (1-2) and No. 2 (2-4) positions. She was 17-4 in singles during freshman season and 16-5 in doubles. In high school she accumulated 12 singles and 23 career doubles wins on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) pro circuit. She is the daughter of Victor and Larisa Smagina and is working toward her MBA.
