Tawyna Guthrie enters her first season as an assistant coach with the Lady Blues. Guthrie was a four-year starter at catcher for Wichita State. She was a four-year member of the Missouri Valley Conference’s Honor Roll. She graduated from Wichita State in 2007 with a double major in sociology and criminal justice.
As a sophomore, she set the Shockers single-game RBI record with seven against Missouri State in the MVC Postseason Tournament with a grand slam and finished her second season with three home runs and 22 RBI.
She had 10 career home runs in 148 games in a Shocker’s uniform picking up 69 hits with 13 doubles and 55 RBI finishing with a career batting average of .246 and a career fielding percentage of .989.
Guthrie earned NFCA Scholar Athlete accolades as a freshman after she made 55 starts playing in 61 games with 37 hits, which was second on the team.
She also earned the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award all four seasons as a member of WSU’s softball team.
In high school at Thomas Jefferson in Auburn, Wash., she earned letters in softball and track and was a three-time all-city catcher and two-time all-league selection. She batted .537 in 2002, which was the second best average in the league. Her team won two straight south division league championships and finished fifth in the state tournament her junior season. She is the daughter of Bob Guthrie and Jodie and Ken Miller.
