2018 Washburn Ichabod Softball Roster
Biography
At Washburn: Joined the softball team in the spring of 2017 after wrapping up a three-year All-American career with the Washburn Ichabod volleyball team where she amassed 1,784 digs for fourth on the Washburn all-time list while landing second in the digs per set (5.25). Her season total for digs is also the sixth-best in program-history. Earlier this season Carney earned the distinction of being a unanimous first team pick for All-MIAA.
In 2017: Played in two games after finishing volleyball career … had two plate appearances … a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
In 2016: As a member of the Washburn volleyball team, she earned AVCA honorable mention All-America honors ending the season as the MIAA's leader in digs (635) and digs per set (5.29) and was ranked nationally at 26th and 44th respectively … the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team selection also tallied 96 assists, 26 service aces and eight kills while being one of just two student-athletes to play in every set for the Ichabods season in 2016 … notched 20-plus digs 13 times with three matches of 30 digs or more including a season-high of 37.
In 2015: CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team … CoSIDA Academic All-Region First Team … All-MIAA Second Team … named MIAA Specialist of the Week on Oct. 26 and Sept. 28 … appeared in all 34 matches as libero for the Ichabods … led the team and was third in the MIAA with 653 digs (5.44 digs per set), which was the fifth highest single-season total in WU history … added 125 assists (third on the team) … had double-digit digs in 33 of 34 matches and ran off 38 straight double-digit dig performances dating back to 2014 … recorded 30-plus digs in four matches and dug up 43 attacks at Central Oklahoma on Nov. 14, which tied for third most in school history … digs average (5.44) was fourth highest in school history … joined the 1,000 digs club at Washburn on Nov. 6 against Lindenwood and closed the 2015 campaign with 1,149 career digs.
In 2014: All-MIAA Honorable Mention as libero … Appeared in all 31 games for the Ichabods and played in 100 sets … Had 496 digs to lead the team, posting a 96.5 reception percentage with just 18 errors in 519 attempts … Had 24 service aces (second most on the team) and had one match with four service aces (Central Oklahoma, Oct. 3) … Fifth in the MIAA with 4.96 digs per set … Had 26 double-digit digs performances and 10 games with 20 or more digs … Season high was 27 at Central Oklahoma on Oct. 31.
Background: Played in 34 of 35 matches with two starts as a defensive specialist her freshman year at Wichita State in 2013 … finished with 229 digs to average 1.97 a set, fifth best on the team … had 19 aces and 0.16 per set, second best on the team … reached double figures in digs eight times with a season-high 18 against Fresno State on September 7 helped the Shockers to a 28-7 record and a Missouri Valley Conference title with a 15-3 league record … the team won the MVC postseason tournament and played in the first round of the NCAA tournament … named to the Wichita State Athletic Director’s Honor Roll with a 4.0 GPA in health science … A 2013 graduate of Washburn Rural High School where she lettered in volleyball all four years … earned Second Team All-State her final three years and was All-City and All-League all four years … the Junior Blues won the 6A state title her freshman, junior and senior years and finished third her sophomore year … the team went 162-16 in her four years as she was starting libero her first two years and a starting outside hitter her final two years … won the outstanding Fall Female Athlete from the Topeka Shawnee County Sports Council … also lettered in softball all four years as a starting center fielder … she earned First Team All-State three times and was Second Team All-State her sophomore year … was a First Team High School All-American as a senior … her team finished in the top five all four years … academically, she earned KVA All-Academic honors all four years as well as National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athlete all four years … she was a Wendy’s High School Heisman finalist in 2012.
