Kati Sneegas – Senior – Defender – Human Services

When did you start playing soccer?
KS: I think I started in first grade. I was on Pink Panthers. I’ve really played it my whole life. The Pink Panthers were kind of like whoever wants to come out and exercise. I think it was my church group or something.

Throughout your soccer career, who has influenced you the most?
KS: My parents because they went to every game. Even if I had a bad game, they would just tell me that it’s OK because I’m very competitive so whenever I knew I was doing bad, I would automatically get in a bad mood. They always kept me positive. I also had a really great coach Brian Roberts, my club coach on the Kansas City Legends and he was probably the first coach to push me to my limits. As I grew with him and saw what he was doing and why he was doing it to me, I have a lot of respect for him. He made me love the sport a lot.

What has been your most exciting moment in your career at Washburn?
KS: Beating Emporia last year. We’ve had a lot of close games against Emporia in the past few years. Everyone played so great and it was a beautiful day. My whole family was there. Everyone was on their A-game and we were just doing everything we had practiced. Then, when we won it, it felt like we actually worked for something and achieved it.

You’re majoring in human services. What do you plan on doing with your degree?
KS: Human services is pretty much like social work. I’m planning on getting my undergrad in human services and then my master’s in social work (MSW). I’m doing applications for my MSW right now. My main goal is to end up being a school counselor.

What is your favorite show to binge watch?
KS: Definitely The Office, it’s been my thing for years. It’s sort of part of my self-care too. The Office is something that I can turn on while I’m doing my homework and it just makes the room a little less heavy. I can just put it on and not really pay attention but it still feels like I’m watching it.

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
KS: I would definitely have a monkey. On TikTok, there’s this person that has a baby monkey. I always see those videos and I really want one. There was actually a time where I looked up how much a monkey is. That’s a dream of mine to have a monkey, so I can hug it.

Favorite quote?
KS: I’ve always gone back to the quote “Let Go and Let God.” I always go back to that because college is stressful, life is stressful, things get to you. It feels good to just let go and when you give it to God, you feel more confident.

Anything you’d like to add?
KS: Soccer is really fun to watch. The soccer team’s personalities are great, we’re fun on the soccer field, we’re aggressive. Come out and watch us, whenever we play in the spring or next year. Just keep supporting each other!
