Hunter Bentley – Senior – Political Science

When did you playing basketball?
HB: I started playing on a basketball team when I was super young because my sister, who is two years older than me, was playing and I wanted to do whatever she was doing!

How did you end up at Washburn?
HB: I decided to come to Washburn for the great basketball program, for its location in the capital city, the political science program, and its proximity to my home. It was important for me to be able to grow in school, as a player, and as a person. Washburn was the best place for me to do so while also being in a place where my family could come to all of my home games and most of the away games.

Throughout your basketball career, who has influenced you the most?
HB: As I have grown up, I believe that there have been a few different people who have influenced me the most. When I was younger, my parents were my coaches, so they helped shape me as a player, mentally and physically. They will always be my biggest influencers. But as I have gotten older, being able to watch players like Sabrina Ionescu, Napheesa Collier, Aja Wilson, and many other college, and now WNBA, stars has helped me become a better player.

You’re majoring in political science. What do you plan on doing with your degree?
HB: I am not sure what I would like to do with my degree yet. I have interned in the Capitol a couple times, so being able to work in our state government for great leaders like Governor Laura Kelly and Lieutenant Governor Lynn Rogers would be something I would love to do.

Do you have any hidden talents?
HB: I would like to think I am a decent singer but you will have to ask someone else about that!

Favorite quote?
HB: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” – Dr. Seuss

Favorite show to binge watch?
HB: My favorite show to binge-watch right now is Schitt's Creek or Love Island! However, HGTV and Guy's Grocery games are shows I can always enjoy.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
HB: I would love to go to Costa Rica or Panama! I have always wanted to go to Central America to experience the culture and food.

What other interesting hobbies or interests do you have?
HB: I love watching/listening to musicals. Anything that has to do with singing and I'm there!
