Washburn's 1,000 kill club jumped from 11 to 13 in one day as
Monica Miesner joined the list with 14 kills in a 30-28, 30-14, 30-25 win over No. 17 West Texas A&M Saturday night to wrap up the Lady Blues Fall Classic. The No. 5 Lady Blues improved to 25-1 as they won their 20th straight match and went to 5-0 against ranked teams.
The Lady Blues will have to face another ranked team when they host No. 7 Central Missouri Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena.
Miesner became the 13th Lady Blue to reach 1,000 kills in her career with her second one against WTAMU. She joined Cox, who achieved the milestone in the morning match, and she also became just the seventh player to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. Miesner now has 1,117 digs and 1,012 kills in her four years.
Tessa Jones led WU with 16 kills while
Mandi Cox had 11 kills and led the attack with a .435 percentage. The Lady Blues hit .344 as a team.
Jones and Miesner also had double-doubles as Miesner led the team with 15 digs and Jones had 10.
Erica Cowhick had 12 digs while
Molly Smith had 10. Cowhick moved her school-record dig total to 2,118 to put her three digs away from moving into third in MIAA career history.
Kate Hampson had 46 assists while Jones and
Stephanie Nitz led the team with four blocks.
