Kate Hampson became the Lady Blues career assists leader and No. 8 WU went on to defeat No. 13 Pittsburg State, 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 29-27). Four Lady Blues had double-figure kills and five reached double figures in digs in the win.
Hampson ended the night with a season-high 54 assists and now has 3,963 in her third year. She passed Lindsey Kersting, who had 3,915 from 1999-02. The All-American has 763 this year and last year she set a single-season record with 1,928.
Hampson distributed her assists evenly.
Ashley Shepard led the team with 18,
Stephanie Nitz had 14,
Monica Miesner had 12 and
Mollie Lacy had 10. Nitz led the offense with a .542 attack percentage with one error in 24 attacks. Washburn hit .224 as a team.
On the back row Miesner and
Molly Smith led with 20 digs. Shepard had 14, Jennifer Kolarik had 12 and Hampson 11.
Miesner, Shepard and Hampson had double-doubles and Hampson and Lacy led the team with four blocks each.
The Gorillas had three players reach double figures in kills, led by Valeen Finney with 12.
