Hampson's double-double leads Lady Blues to sweep at Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Kate Hampson had 34 assists and 12 digs as she helped lead the Lady Blues to a 25-20, 25-14, 25-16 win at Northwest Missouri State Tuesday night. No. 7 Washburn improved to 24-2 and 8-2 in the MIAA and will return home to host No. 10 Truman Friday at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena.

The Lady Blues have now won 10 straight matches and they have won five straight against NWMSU and 15 of the last 16.

Hampson was one of three Lady Blues in double figures in digs. Monica Miesner led with 16 and Molly Smith had 13. Miesner had nine kills.

Ashley Shepard led the attack with 10 kills and Mollie Lacy added nine and hit .300 with three errors in 20 attempts. The Lady Blues hit .250 as a team.

Washburn blocked four shots with Miesner leading with two assisted blocks.

The Lady Blues led early in the first set before giving up a 9-3 run that gave NWMSU a 12-11 lead. After a 14-14 tie the Lady Blues went on top by two off a Bearcat error and a service ace from Smith. A kill from Caitlin Conley later made the score 22-18 and then WU held off a late Bearcat run by scoring the last three points to win the set. Lacy had two of the last three points on kills.

Washburn fell behind 3-0 in the second set before going on an 11-1 run to lead 11-4. WU pushed the lead to 10 points at 18-8 and led comfortably the rest of the way.

The Lady Blues led by scores a 4-0 and 6-1 early in the third set and the Bearcats never got closer than three points away from Washburn.

Amber Ryan led NWMSU with eight kills and a .316 attack percentage. Paige Spangenberg had 20 digs.
