PITTSBURG - Washburn out-hit Pittsburg State and led 2-1 after two sets but the Gorillas came back for a 3-2 (17-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 15-13) win to drop the Lady Blues to 29-4 and 14-4 in the MIAA. No. 7 Washburn will play Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Fort Hays State in the home finale. The three seniors will be honored prior to the game.
The Lady Blues won the first and third sets by identical 25-17 scores. They then led just twice by a point in the fourth and fifth sets as the series between these two schools went to five sets for the fifth time in the last seven matches.
Monica Miesner had a double-double with a team-high 16 kills and 19 digs.
Mollie Lacy had 15 kills and
Caitlin Conley had 14 and led the team with a .333 attack percentage.
Three other players joined Miesner with double-figure digs.
Molly Smith had 18,
Kate Hampson had 16 and
Courtney Wallman had 14. Wallman's dig total was a season-high, as was her eight total kills.
Hampson added 63 assists for a double-double and Miesner had four of WU's six blocks.
The Lady Blues out-hit PSU .205 to .183, but had eight service errors and 13 more attack errors.
Linda Igninigie led the Gorillas with 18 kills.
