Lady Blues wrap up play at NFCA Lead Off Classic

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Washburn Lady Blues wrapped up the NFCA Lead Off Classic on Saturday dropping a 10-3 decision to CSU-Stanislaus. On Friday, Washburn topped Texas Woman's 7-6 in extra innings before taking a 10-2 win over Texas A&M-International in five innings. Washburn will be back in action on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader at Pittsburg State before taking part in the Central Oklahoma Classic Feb. 22-24 in Edmond.

On Friday, Washburn picked up their first win of the season in a 7-6 victory over Texas Woman's. The Lady Blues jumped out to a 5-1 lead following a grand slam by Tish Williams. TWU rallied to tie the score at 6-6 before Jessie Batres drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth scoring Whitney Tapp. Nicole Perkuhn picked up the win.

In the second game, Washburn used an eight-run first inning cruising to the 10-2 win over Texas A&M-International. Tish WIlliams scored three runs and had three hits and Brooke DeVader drove in three along with Batres in the win. Malarie Fellers drove in two. Kelly Swygert picked up the win for Washburn.

Washburn ended the tournament on Saturday with a 10-3 loss to CSU-Stanislaus. Washburn scored first on a lead off home run by Williams. CSU-S added three in the third and four in the fifth leading to the win. DeVader hit her second home run of the season and her 26th of her career in the game.
