AUSTIN, Texas – Washburn junior-to-be outfielder Makenzie Sais put the final award of the season on her list of accomplishments in 2026 after earning College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® Second Team honors. She is the first Ichabod softball player to earn both Academic and Athletic All-American honors in the same season and just the fifth Ichabod to earn CSC Academic All-America® honors in program history.

This past season, Sais was named Third Team All-American as well as first-team all-region by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and was the winner of the NFCA's New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe Award winner as the top base runner in the NCAA DII ranks after leading NCAA DII in stolen bases with an MIAA and school record 69 season en route to first-team all-MIAA honors. Sais led the Ichabods with a .421 batting average with 75 hits and 48 runs scored and a .507 on base percentage and was also selected as a MIAA Gold Glove pick by the league coaches. She topped the NCAA DII charts averaging 1.25 steals per game and stole a season-high four bases against Montana State Billings and Southeastern Oklahoma. She started all 55 games for the Ichabods in center field and was selected as a CSC Academic All-District selection and was a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award and the MIAA Academic Excellence listing.
