Brooke DeVader hit a grand slam and the Lady Blues pounded out 22 hits in a doubleheader sweep over William Jewell Friday at the Washburn Softball Complex. Washburn improved to 9-15 with the wins and has won four straight.
The Lady Blues moved their conference openers to Sunday in a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader to avoid scheduled rain on Saturday.
DeVader hit a grand slam in the fourth inning of the first game and went 3 for 4 with five RBI.
Tish Williams and
Dani White each had two hits and two RBI in the game.
Kelly Swyger pitched the first four innings and got the win as she allowed two hits and two runs.
Nicole Perkuhn had a hitless outing as she pitched the final three innings.
In the second game Williams and
Whitney Tapp each went 3 for 4 with two RBI and Williams scored three times.
Kayla Long went the distance for the Lady Blues and allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
Williams finished the doubleheader 5 for 8 while DeVader went 4 for 8 with six RBI. Williams and White joined DeVader with home runs.
