TOPEKA, Kan. -- The seventh-ranked Washburn Lady Blues volleyball squad rebounded from a slow start to down Missouri Southern 3-1 on Tuesday night at Lee Arena. The Lady Blues dropped the first set 21-25, before rebounding to win the next three 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 to take the match.
Washburn (20-2, 4-2 MIAA) hit just .057 in the first set, but came back strong in set two with a .448 attack percentage. WU out-hit MSSU .219 to .202 on the night and had 61 kills to 49 for the Lions (9-9, 2-3 MIAA).
Sophomore middle hitter
Mollie Lacy led the Lady Blues attack with 16 kills and a .542 attack percentage. Freshman
Jessica Fey had a career-high 12 kills and junior
Ashley Shepard added 10 for Washburn. Senior setter
Kate Hampson recorded 51 assists and junior
Molly Smith had a team-high 18 digs.
Washburn will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Southwest Baptist on Friday and Pittsburg State on Saturday.
