Washburn heats up in second half in win over Swedes

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods shot 56 percent in the second half turning a 1-point halftime lead into a 27-point win over Bethany Monday night in Lee Arena in an 86-59 victory. Washburn will have a quick turnaround as they will play host to Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

After leading at the break 33-32, the Ichabods came out of the locker room on a 15-2 run over the first seven minutes of the half opening a 48-34 lead. The Ichabods would go on to lead as many as 29 in the second half as they held the Swedes to 8 of 21 shooting in the half for a 38 percent clip. The Ichabods jumped from a 38 percent average in the first half (11 of 29) to 18 of 32  in the second half for a 56 percent mark.

Washburn trailed by as many as nine in the game at 19-10 as the Swedes came out hitting 7 of their first 8 shots including both 3-point attempts. A 14-2 run by the Ichabods pushed Washburn to the 1-point lead.

Logan Stutz had a career high 21 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds. He led a total of five Ichabods in double figures as Maurice Colter (15), Dezahn Otis (12), De'Andre Washington (11) and William McNeill (10) all reach double digits. McNeill added a game-high nine rebounds.

Clayton Goggins led the Swedes with 15 points.

The Ichabods outrebounded the Swedes 40 to 24 and forced 22 turnovers leading to 23 points. The Ichabods were also 24 of 29 from the free throw line compared to 12 of 16 for Bethany.
