TOPEKA, Kan. -- The ninth-ranked Washburn Lady Blues swept Southwest Baptist 3-0 (27-25, 25-14, 25-16) on Friday night at Lee Arena. The sweep was Washburn's 21st of the season. The Lady Blues will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host 22nd-ranked Pittsburg State at 2 p.m.

Washburn (29-4, 13-4 MIAA) won a back-and-forth set one 27-25. The Lady Blues trailed 21-19, but rallied to tie the set at 21 and took the lead on the very next point. WU never trailed the rest of set and closed out the frame on kills by senior Kate Hampson and freshman Hillary Hughes.

Set two was even through the early going with neither team able to gain much of an advantage. Southwest Baptist (10-22, 3-13 MIAA) rallied from three points down to take a 14-12 lead, but the Lady Blues rattled off 13 straight points, with Hampson serving the final 12 points, to win set two 25-14.

WU jumped on top 6-3 in set three and never looked back en route to the sweep. The Lady Blues led by as many as 10 midway through the final frame and closed out the match with a 25-16 win.

Sophomore Breanna Lewis led Washburn with 10 kills, while freshman Jessica Kopp chipped in nine and sophomores Mollie Lacy and Courtney Wallman had eight each. Hampson continued her strong play with another double-double, the 51st of her career, with 39 assists and 10 digs. The 39 assists moves Hampson into fourth place on the MIAA's career list with 5,669. She is 18 assists shy of third place.

Junior Molly Smith had a season-high 25 digs to lead the Lady Blues defensively.

Ashley Jurgensmeyer led the Bearcats with nine kills.
