DURANT, Okla. -- The Washburn Lady Blues softball team picked up two wins in the second day of the Southeastern Oklahoma South Central Regional Shootout pounding St. Mary's (Texas) 10-0 in five innings and topping Southwestern Oklahoma 8-4 in the second game. The Lady Blues will wrap up play in the classic on Sunday with a single game against Angelo State at noon.
Washburn 10, St. Mary's (Texas) 0 -- 5 innings
The Lady Blues (4-11) broke open a scoreless game in the third inning by scoring five runs highlighted by
Dani White's three-run homer and a solo home run by
Maggie West two batters later. In the fourth inning,
Lindsey Moore crushed a solo shot of her own stretching the lead to 6-0 after four innings. In the top of the fifth inning, Washburn added four more runs as Moore recorded a two-out, 2 RBI double.
Samantha Farris picked up the win scattering three hits over five innings with three strikeouts.
Washburn finished the game with nine hits as Moore finished 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and two runs scored.
Lindsey Himpel and West each had two hits.
Washburn 8, Southwestern Oklahoma 4
The Lady Blues rallied down 4-2 to score six runs in the top of the seventh to take the 8-4 win.
Lindsey Moore led off the inning with single and
Ashley Shaffer reached on an error moving Moore to second. Both runners advanced on a passed ball.
Tish Williams walked and
Lindsey Himpel singled driving in Moore.
Dani White grounded out to shortstop driving in a run. Washburn scored two more unearned runs to wrap up the scoring.
Kayla Long retired Southwestern Oklahoma in order to pick up the win. She gave up two earned runs with four strikeouts. Himpel, White and Moore each had two hits. White finished with two RBI.
