TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods won their third straight game and their fourth in a row over Truman in a 68-50 win over the Bulldogs Wednesday night in Lee Arena. The Ichabods (13-8, 9-5 MIAA) will look for win number four in a row when they travel to Fort Hays State on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
The Ichabods fell behind 8-2 to Truman (6-5, 1-13 MIAA) as the Bulldogs and held the lead up until a 3-pointer by
Steve Feighny which put Washburn up 16-15 with 11:29 to play in the first half. Truman responded with back-to-back layups and a 3-pointer by of their own regaining the lead while stretching it to a 22-17 margin. The Bulldogs pulled out to a 26-19 lead with 4:46 to play in the half, before Washburn held Truman without a field goal for the final 4:46 of the half while going on a 7-0 run and took the lead on a dunk by
Darnell Kimble with 1:59 to play in the stanza.
The Ichabods kept the pressure on the Bulldogs holding Truman without a field goal until the 13:26 mark of the second half totaling more than 10 minutes without a point from the field when Vesko Filchev broke the drought with 13:26 to play in the game and Washburn holding a 34-31 lead.
Washburn put together a 20-9 run over the next six minutes to take a 57-40 lead. Truman would get no closer than 13 the rest of the way.
DeAndre Eggins took game-high honors with 13 points. Kimble recorded his second double double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Covier Carter also had 10 points. Brandon Griffin led Truman with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Ichabods were 22 of 55 for the game (.400) while Truman was 18 of 48 (.375). Washburn also held a 43 to 28 advantage on the glass.
