TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell in a pair of games to Emporia State at the Washburn Softball Complex falling 4-1 in the first game and 8-0 in the nightcap. The Lady Blues (20-29, 7-11 MIAA) will wrap up conference play and look to snap a four-game slide when they host Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Seniors

Maggie West will be honored in pregame festivities.
Game 1 -- Emporia State 4, Washburn 1
Emporia State scored a run in the opening frame and added two more in the fourth propelling themselves to a 4-1 win. ESU starter Megan Dennis held the Lady Blues hitless until the seventh inning when
Lindsey Himpel broke up the no-hit bid to lead off the inning. Himpel kept the Lady Blues from the shutout when
Whitney Tapp singled driving in the lone Washburn run.
Kayla Long (7-12) took the loss allowing three earned runs with a pair of strikeouts. ESU's Dennis (16-6) scattered the three seventh inning hits allowing one earned run and striking out seven.
Game 2 -- Emporia State 8, Washburn 0
Washburn fell to the Hornets for the 17th straight time as Emporia State jumped on Lady Blues starter
Samantha Farris (10-15) for four runs in the first inning. ESU added another in the second and three more in the top of the seventh en route to the win. Washburn was limited to three hits (Tapp,
Lindsey Moore and
Maggie West) with a double by West in the seventh.
Jennifer Heerey (18-7) had the shutout for the Hornets striking out five.
