OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Wasburn Lady Blues had their season come to a close with two losses at the MIAA softball tournament on Friday night. Sixth-seeded Washburn fell to No. 3 seed Emporia State 9-0 in five innings in the opener and was eliminated by No. 7 seed Missouri Southern 5-3.
The Lady Hornets plated a single run in the first, six in the second, thanks to three home runs, and two runs in the third for the 9-0 lead. The Lady Blues mustered just three hits in the contest.
Kayla Long took the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Washburn jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game thanks to a pair of first inning home runs.
Dani White cracked her 12th long ball of the season, a two-run shot, and
Ashley Podschun connected on her fifth to give WU the early lead.
Missouri Southern rallied with two runs in the second and one in the fourth to tie the game. The Lions took the lead for good on a two-run long ball in the fifth.
Samantha Farris was tagged with the loss after allowing those five runs on nine hits in a complete-game outing.
Tish Williams, named the MIAA Player of the Year earlier in the day, finished 3-for-4 at the plate.
