HAYS, Kan. -- The fourth-ranked Lady Blues rolled to a 3-0 sweep at Fort Hays State on Tuesday night. Washburn won 25-20, 25-16, 25-19. The Lady Blues will be back in action this Friday night as they host No. 15 Emporia State in the Turnpike Tussle at 7 p.m.
The first set saw the Tigers (7-13, 0-8 MIAA) got out to an early lead only to see Washburn (20-1, 8-1 MIAA) come back to take a 7-6 lead and never look back. A 12-6 run gave the Lady Blues an 18-12 advantage and they rolled to the opening set win.
Fort Hays State once again jumped out to an early lead at the start of set two scoring the first five points. WU responded with five quick points to tie the score and went ahead for good at 9-8 as part of a 12-1 run that gave the Lady Blues an 11-point lead.
Washburn never trailed in the third set and final set and put the game away with an 11-5 run after FHSU had pulled to within one.
Jessica Fey led the Washburn attack with 12 kills and she hit .478.
Mollie Lacy added 11 kills and five blocks, while hitting a blistering .556. Washburn hit .313 as a team, while holding the Tigers to a .120 hitting percentage.
Amanda Guess and
Abby Wittman had 29 and 11 assists, respectively.
Molly Smith had a match-high 16 digs.
Tracie Hileman led the Tigers with 12 kills and 11 digs. Whitney Liggett had a match-high 31 assists and Kristen Chamberlin added 12 digs. Madison Schwartz had eight kills and 10 digs for FHSU.
