Ichabods topped by Lions - face must-win games remainder of regular season

JOPLIN, Mo. -- A 21-6 run by Missouri Southern was too much for the Washburn to overcome as the Lions topped the Ichabods 77-54 in the Leggett & Platt Center in Joplin, Mo. The Ichabods will be back in action on Saturday in the final regular season home game of the year when they will play host to Pittsburg State in Lee Arena at 7:30 p.m.

The Ichabods (13-12, 7-11 MIAA) were limited to 34 percent shooting from the field as they hit 11 of 32 attempts and 1 of 5 3-point attempts. The Lions (15-9, 9-8 MIAA) hit 56 percent of their shots going 15 of 27 including a 7 of 12 performance from behind the 3-point line as the Lions took a 40-26 lead into the halftime locker room.

The second half saw the Lions increase the lead to as many as 23 with 6:41 to play in the stanza before taking the 23-point win.

Logan Stutz led the Ichabods with 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field. William McNeill scored 13 and De'Andre Washington scored nine - all coming in the second half.

Skyler Bowlin led the Lions with 23 points with 17 points coming in the first half as he hit five 3-pointers. He finished the game 7 of 10 from the field hitting 5 of 7 3-point attempts.

Washburn finished the game 19 of 56 from the field while the Lions were 25 of 51. The Lions hit eight 3-pointers compared to two for the Ichabods.

Washburn was outrebounded 36 to 32. The Ichabods also committed 17 turnovers leading to 26 points for the Lions.

The loss dropped the Ichabods into ninth place in the MIAA standings with two games to play - against Pittsburg State in Lee Arena on Saturday and at Emporia State on Wednesday. The Ichabods need to win both to have any shot at finishing in the eighth slot in the conference standings. Emporia State is one game ahead of the Ichabods in the MIAA ledger with an 8-10 conference record. The Hornets games remaining with Washburn next Wednesday and at Fort Hays State on the final Sunday of the conference slate.
